Caterpillar’s Meadow

Thanks for all the votes for naming this quilt (both in the comments section and in person).  While I liked both names best I think that Caterpillar’s Meadow fits both the quilt and the new mama the best.

The post wash measurements are 33 x 41…just the right size for a new baby.

I think this quilt is really pretty and the new mama is going to love it! 🙂

If you remember I used the Sulky Blendables thread…see how nicely it blends

This is the back and you can see how nicely the thread blends into the blocks at the top, but in the rest of the white backing you can see the color variations, which I think looks really cool.  And since I used a light blendables thread it still hides mistakes on the white fabric.

Scruffily Snippets

Rachel of PS I Quilt had a tutorial for raw edge applique at the Moda Bake Shop.  Then when The Quilt Shoppe had a coupon, I used the coupon to buy the Scuffily kit in the Snippets line.

scruffily-snippets-1

The kit came with a layer cake, charm pack, and a jelly roll.

The concept is simple: layer cake, top with charm, top with 2.5″ square (cut from jelly roll strip), and this is an easy quilt to piece.  This was my first attempt at raw edge applique and I really like the fuzzy raw edges.  It’s so darn soft!!!

The backing fabric is from my stash, but it certainly looks like it’s part of the line.  I decided to straight line quilt this one, and straight line quilting was not nearly as enjoyable as an all over meander or stipple, but it did get the job done relatively quickly, and after washing it, I really really like it.

The binding is scrappy…I chose 7 strips from the jelly roll.  This was my first scrappy binding, and I love how it goes with the scrappy feel of the quilt.

Note: the kit calls for using 36 layer cake squares, but I went ahead and used all 42–making the quilt longer.  Since the charm pack came with 40 charms, I ended up using 2 5 x 5 squares from my stash and I also threw in some of that stash fabric for the 2.5 x 2.5 squares for good measure.

Post wash measurement is 54 x 64.

It’s Snowing

Here’s another finished quilt that I will be gifting later in the year.  (wink, wink) 😉

I love the reds and aquas.

I love the pieced back of reds and greens.

I quilted this one with white thread, and the unwashed, and unlabeled quilt measures a 57″ square.

Merry & Bright: More Than A Peak

Linda kindly asked me to reveal my Merry & Bright quilt, and since I’m 99.999% positive the recipient of this quilt does not read this website I figured it would be just fine to share it with all of you.

If you remember I started with a layer cake, and because sometimes I think simple is best, I decided to just sew the 10×10 squares together.  You really get to appreciate the entire line this way, and I really do love the simple squares.

I absolutely love this quilt, and I’m so glad I bought 2 layer cakes, because this way I can make one for us too…but that will have to wait because I have so many projects I want to do! 🙂

So here is the unwashed and unlabeled “finished project.”  It measures as a 57” square (prewashed).

Rocqua Rhythm: Done :)

I love how this quilt turned out…so cheerful and fun.  It shrunk A LOT in the wash–a whole 5 inches!  With all the quilting it is a bit stiff, but that’s fine with me because I absolutely love it!

Autumn Leaves Runner

On Saturday I took a class at my local quilt shop on how to make autumn leaves.  I love taking classes, learning new techniques, and talking with other quilter.

Autumn leaves are so easy!!  I had no idea!

The class was designed for a wall hanging, and quite frankly my walls are filled with photos of my kiddos, and any empty space is designated for more family photos, so I opted to alter the pattern and make a runner/table topper.  By the way, what is the difference between a runner and a table topper?

I’m usually not a fan of batiks, but I have had my eye on the pink/brown prints and the blue/brown prints, so I decided to use those, and I absolutely love how it turned out.

The runner/table topper looks great on my table too, and the dimensions (16 x 39) are perfect for my table–I didn’t want something too big or long as I didn’t want it to hang over the sides.

Since I tried a new design, I also wanted to try some new quilting.  I did stipple the 2 inch border, but the rest of the runner/table topper quilting is so cool…not sure what you call it, but I’m certainly going to do this technique again when I do a quilt of just squares (from charm packs).  The intention was for all the lines to be curved, admittedly there are some straighter lines than I would’ve liked, but heck, for the first time, I think it looks great!

Ellie Fun Quilt

I finished up the binding for the quilt last night, and then I washed and dried it, and I just love it.   It’s just so playful and fun!

I posted the pattern here.

Pre-wash dimensions were 59 x 67 and post-wash dimensions are 56 1/2 x 63 1/2.

Baby Rocketships

Here is baby quilt #2.  I had so much fun with it, because I’ve never made a baby quilt for a boy before.  I also didn’t buy any new fabric…I raided my stash, and I love how it all came together.

The quilt measures 32 x 42, and I used all fat quarters.  The pattern is Mini Modern Rose Garden by Carolina Patchworks.  I love the pattern…beautifully simple to show off great fabric.  I will certainly be making this pattern again!  I purchased the mini modern rose garden and modern rose garden patterns, so I have lots of options to choose from for the next time.

This baby quilt was sent to its new home today to await for baby’s arrival on Tuesday 🙂

Baby Flower Power

It’s baby season, so I’ve been working on a couple of baby quilts.  One of my really good friends had her second daughter, Riley, 4 weeks early.  Riley will be snuggled tightly in this super girly baby quilt.

The pattern is the baby throw by Valori Wells.  The quilt measures 30  x 42.  I used all fat quarters except for the plaid on the back .  It was a fun pattern, and I will certainly be using this pattern again.  Perhaps next time I will make the adult throw.

Jelly Filled Red, White, & Bold

Since I made a quilt for Ellie, I had to also make a quilt for Ethan.  It’s much harder to find appropriate fabric for a boy than it is for a girl.  Ethan’s room is decorated in a patriotic theme…lots of red, white, blue.  So, when I found Sandy Gervais’ Red, White & Bold line I thought that would be perfect for Ethan.  I used Camille’s Jelly Filled pattern (love that pattern!)

The quilt measured 67 x 71, and it turned out great…most importantly Ethan loves it, and he likes to remind Ellie that his quilt is bigger than her quilt.

I designed the quilt back myself to look like Old Glory, and I’m super happy with how it turned out.
