Urban Blooms: Pin Basted

A few days ago I finished sewing the Urban Blooms quilt top together.  The Lemon Squares quilt pattern yields blocks about 10 inches, but then the directions call to trim the blocks down to 9.5 inches.  I’m so glad I didn’t forgo that step, because piecing the top together was so easy with all those perfect 9.5 inch blocks.

With the quilt top done, it’s time for basting and then on to quilting.  So loving the colors!!!!

One of my favorite blocks

Productive Quilting Day

Yesterday was a very productive day for quilting.  I pin basted the Lavender Fields quilt top, quilted it, and sewed the binding to the front of the quilt.  Now I just need to hand sew the binding to the back.

Giddy Goof

I completed the Giddy quilt top a few nights ago, and on Tuesday evening while we watched the Sugar Bowl (and sadly watched the Hogs lose), I decided to pin paste the quilt.

I got to the very last corner and finished the pin basting and realized this:

The top right block was sewn in the wrong direction!  I let out a very loud “Oh, no!!” It was PG since my kiddos were still awake.  This seems to be a recurring problem for me…sewing directional blocks.  I did the very same thing with the Ellie Fun quilt.  My hubby kept telling me not to worry about it especially since Giddy is for us (really, it’s for me 😉 ), but I couldn’t, because I knew it would bug me, and I love this fabric so much I wanted it to be “perfect.”

So I unpinned that section and got out my handy seam ripper, and I got to work.

I then rotated the block and sewed everything back together, and then repinned that section.

Now that looks better, and more importantly I feel much better!

Black White and Red All Over Quilting

I can’t believe it’s April already!

Over the weekend I put the Black, White & Red All Over sandwich together and pin basted it.

Then last night I got totally stressed out when I realized we are in April and I have to finish this quilt for a summer wedding, I have to start and finish a baby quilt for a friend’s baby due in June, and I have to start and finish another quilt before the end of June.  All this and I’m about to get super busy at work.  Needless to say I was a bit of a stress basket case last night, especially when I looked over at my newly pin basted Black, White & Red All Over quilt in which I used all of my pins to baste it.  So now, I certainly need to quilt that quilt, so that I can have the pins handy to do the other 2 quilts that need to get completed before the Black, White & Red All Over (and I most certainly was not about to take out all those pins!!!!).

Luckily today was a nice day and my daughter was outside playing with her friend, which meant I had some time to just quilt, and quilt I did!  The whole quilt is now quilted, yay!

Now I’m going to put this quilt aside so I can work on the other more pressing quilts.  I generally like to finish a quilt before I start another one, but I’m going to have to make an exception.  The binding and label will have to wait for another day.

Rocqua Rhythm Sandwich

And now for the Rocqua Rhythm sandwich.  It’s pin basted and ready to quilt.  But there is no time to quilt this weekend since today is my little princess’ 4th birthday, and we have a weekend of birthday festivities.

This quilt is pretty big measuring in at a 65″ square, so I’m guessing it will take me quite some to quilt this one.

Merry & Bright Sandwich

I’ve got my Merry & Bright quilt top and backing sandwiched together and pin basted.  I went to my local quilt shop today and got a cool gold toned (but it’s not shiny or anything like that) thread for the quilting.

Here’s a peak:

Now I just need to find the time to quilt this baby.

It’s Snowing Fabric

Here’s the first of my winter quilts, and it’s a gift for this upcoming holiday season.  The fabric is It’s Snowing by Deb Strain for Moda.  The quilt top and back are pieced, basted, and quilted, and I am now working on hand sewing the binding to the back of the quilt.  Since this is a gift here’s a sneak peak, but I probably won’t post much about the finished quilt until after the quilt is sent to its new home! :)
