Think Pink

I made this very special quilt for a dear friend of mine who is fighting breast cancer.  We stayed the weekend with them last month, and it was so much fun to give this quilt to her in person!  Love you Holly!!

Pattern is Radio Wave by Jae Bird Quilts.  Made with 2.5 inch strips.  Love this pattern!

Post wash measurement: 58 x 66

Summer Lovin’

Yay…another finished quilt (made the blocks in 2009 and pieced the top in 2011)!!!!  So happy this is done, and looking at it, I don’t know what on earth took me so long to finish it!

I’m loving the turquoise, orange, and pink combination!  Primary fabric line is Summer in the City by Urban Chicks for Moda, but there are lots of other random fabrics as well.

Post wash measurement: 68 x 68.

Spooktacular

With Ellie on fall break for 2 weeks, we decided to make a Halloween quilt together.  She organized all the fabric to be sewn, and then she arranged all the squares all by herself.  So proud of her!

I didn’t think we’d get this one done for Halloween 2014, but we did!  Yes!!!

Post wash measurement: 61 x 69.  Nice and big to snuggle under while watching tv.

Ellie’s Blush

Ellie and I started this quilt back in January of 2011.  We pieced, quilted and sewed the binding on the front.  The only thing left was to hand stitch the binding to the back of the quilt. But the quilt stayed nicely folded for years, literally.  She doesn’t even remember this quilt.  Sniff.

With the amount of time I spend on the pool deck for swim practice I figured that would be a great opportunity to finish up some projects.

So while it was crazy hot and humid on deck, I stitched the binding and Ellie’s Blush is now done, washed, and ready to snuggle under.

Post wash measurement: 56 x 56.

You Are My Sunshine

Yay!  I have a new nephew! :)  Just the excuse I needed to start quilting again.  I love the combination of the yellows and grays…it’s like sunshine on a cloudy day (you know how the song goes–You are my sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray….).

Baby quilts are so fun to make, since the whole quilt comes together relatively quickly.  I just love how it turned out!

I used the Snapshot pattern from Happy Hour by Atkins Design.  I love this pattern (I used it for Caterpillar’s Meadow).

I hope my nephew, Ben, loves his new quilt!

Post wash measurement: 34 x 42.

Summer Breezes

I designed this quilt a long time ago while traveling for my kids’ swim meet.  In fact, I came across the original design sketches that were on an Embassy Suites notepad.  So it’s fitting that I’m donating this quilt to our swim team’s silent auction.

I love the oranges and aquas, and there just might be another quilt with these same mix of colors in the works.

Urban Blooms: Done

I always love when I get to hand deliver a new quilt to its new owner.  I love to see their reactions, and I do believe B loved it.

The prewash measurement: 53.5 x 62.5.

The postwash measurement: 52 x 59.5.

Love me a striped binding!

Urban Blooms

It’s been far too long since I sat behind my sewing machine and created., far too long since I’ve started a quilt, and far too long since I’ve finished a quilt.

Sewing and quilting is cathartic and peaceful.  I love the creative process and the accomplishment.

And so we start a new year and 2012 promises to be filled with lots of quilts! Yipee!

2012 musts:

  • Make quilt for a bff who moved recently
  • Finish quilt for a cousin’s wedding (ahem…she got married a long time ago…gack!)
  • Make quilt for another cousin’s upcoming wedding present
  • Make baby quilt for a cousin’s first baby
  • Finish Ellie’s quilt
  • Make a quilt for myself

First up is called Urban Blooms (unless I come up with a more creative title 😉 ).  I’m loosely using the Lemon Squares pattern by Fresh Lemons.  More than a year ago I bought a quilt kit that was on sale.  It didn’t have the pattern with it, but that was fine, because I bought the kit for the fabric anyway.  I loved the colors and I loved how the colors were out of my normal repertoire/comfort zone.  I’ve been waiting for the perfect occasion and perfect recipient, and I found it.  This one’s for you B:

Block “A”

Lavendar Fields Baby Quilt

My cousin asked me to make a baby quilt for one of her friends, and since I love making baby quilts (well, all quilts really, but I especially love baby quilts), I jumped at the opportunity.  It’s the same pattern I used for Life’s a Hoot, but I altered the dimensions a bit.

I was told the new mama likes light green, purple, and brown.  I had a bunch of Hushabye (by Tula Pink for Moda) charm packs and I pulled out all the green and browns, and then I added some purples to the mix.  I love this color combination!  And because I love me a polka dot binding, the green dots on brown was just perfect!!! The purples, the green geometric backing, and the brown with green dots are all from different lines, but they coordinate perfectly with the greens and browns from Hushabye.

The post wash  measurement is 37 x 45.

I hope my cousin and the new mama like it!

Welcome to the world Samantha!
