Lavendar Fields Baby Quilt

My cousin asked me to make a baby quilt for one of her friends, and since I love making baby quilts (well, all quilts really, but I especially love baby quilts), I jumped at the opportunity. It’s the same pattern I used for Life’s a Hoot, but I altered the dimensions a bit.

I was told the new mama likes light green, purple, and brown. I had a bunch of Hushabye (by Tula Pink for Moda) charm packs and I pulled out all the green and browns, and then I added some purples to the mix. I love this color combination! And because I love me a polka dot binding, the green dots on brown was just perfect!!! The purples, the green geometric backing, and the brown with green dots are all from different lines, but they coordinate perfectly with the greens and browns from Hushabye.

The post wash measurement is 37 x 45.

Ethan’s Quilt: Make Life

Here is Ethan’s quilt. He and I started this quilt back in January during snow days. 4 months is a long time from start to finish for a 7 year old (I actually finished the binding on April 2, which is Ethan’s birthday, but I didn’t label and wash it until this weekend), so he didn’t really recognize it. But once I refreshed his memory he got really excited and he slept with it last night.

I tried something new with this quilt. I used a sheet for the backing because I liked the polka dots (shocking, I know, but I love me a polka dot quilt back!!!!). But, the sheet was not 100% cotton, but since this quilt was for Ethan and I could test it out, I decided to give it a try. I must say it was nice to lay the sheet out to sandwich the quilt rather than to piece the backing (although I do love a pieced back).

Here’s my review on the cotton poly blend sheet backing: I don’t think it shrunk at the same rate as the quilt top and the batting. But I think the biggest drawback is that it didn’t give me the super crinkly look that I so love. So I think I’ll stick with 100% cotton for the backs (unless of course I find some really cool blend fabric) whether it be from sheets or quilting fabric. I’m working on one more quilt with a cotton poly blend back and that’s Ellie’s quilt. It’s been quilted for some time, and I just need to bind it.

Fabric is Make Life by Sweetwater for Moda.

Post wash measurement: 55.5 x 64.5.

I also made this quilt super special for Ethan by quilting his name. He loves that!!!

Hawg Wild

I took a deep breath and opened the washing machine and smiled broadly…no reds or blacks ran onto the white! Woohoo!!!!

Here’s a little background on the quilt’s name. My son swims competitively for the AquaHawgs, and my daughter will also swim on the team this fall. The reason we are a part of the AquaHawgs is because of Coach Amy. We all adore her, and she really ignited the swimming passion in both of my kiddos. If not for her we likely would not be a part of the AquaHawgs. So with her departure comes lots of sadness, but also true excitement for her and her husband as their life’s journey takes them elsewhere. Our family has truly been blessed to have had Coach Amy involved in our lives for the last 2 years.

When she told me she was moving, I of course knew I needed to make her a quilt to thank her for everything she’s done for us. Since the team’s colors are red, black, and white, I thought a quilt with those colors would be perfect. Wherever she is she can wrap herself in some AquaHawg love and some Chriss family love.

For the quilt’s label, I had all 4 of us sign our names…for an extra special touch.

We love Coach Amy so much, and we are going to miss her!

Post wash measurement is 56.5 x 63.5. The pattern is Quilted Windows, and I modified the pattern a bit to make the quilt wider. The fabrics are mostly Mingle by Monaluna for Robert Kaufman.

I absolutely love how this quilt turned out. I’ve had this post sitting as a draft for nearly a week, because I didn’t want to post it until I gave Coach Amy her gift. We are bringing her gift to her today…hope she loves it!

Sandy Dunes

The Sandy Dunes quilt has been completed for awhile, but I just haven’t had the opportunity to take any pictures of it until this weekend. I love the soft pleasing color palette, and it was fun to work with these colors.

It’s a late wedding present for my cousin and her new hubby who happen to live by the beach, so hopefully she and her hubby love it!

The post wash measurement is 56 1/2 x 65 1/2.

Summer Soiree Baby Quilt

Here’s Summer Soiree all finished and fresh out of the dryer. I absolutely love the bright colors, and it makes for the perfect baby quilt. The fabric is Soiree by Lila Tueller for Moda, and I used the Stacked Coins pattern from Moda Bakeshop (I changed up the backing design just a bit).

The post wash measurement is 38 x 46.

I love this fabric so much, and luckily I have extra charm packs of it, so I just may have to make a larger one for myself!

Be Giddy

My Be Giddy quilt has been complete for some time, but it took awhile to actually snap some photos. I absolutely love this quilt (don’t I say that about all of them?!?), because the colors are so cheerful. I used the Piece of Cake 2 Pattern, by Camille Roskelley @ Thimble Blossoms. It’s a great layer cake pattern, and I love how the pattern shows off the fabrics.

The post wash measurement is 56 x 66.

And this yumminess is all for me!

When I washed the Black, White, and Red All Over quilt, a bit of the red bled onto the white. I was able to get most of the bleed out with stain stick and multiple washes, but ever since that experience I’ve used 2 or 3 Shout Color Catcher each time I was a quilt (especially quilts that have red and white). Boy am I glad I did this time. The backing for Giddy is red with pink dots and the front has lots of white. I’m certain had I not included the 3 color catchers, some of the white would’ve turned pink or red.

2 color catchers from the wash load sandwiched between a fresh out of the box sheet. They definitely caught lots of color!

Cool Breezes Takes My Breath Away

I am so in love with this quilt! I love the calm peaceful colors and the fact that it works for the winter and the summer. The last thing I need to do is ship it to its new owner, and since she doesn’t read this blog, I can say that it’s going to my mom. I can’t believe its taken me this long to make her a quilt, especially since she’s the one that encouraged me (for my birthday 2 years ago she sent me to learn to sew classes) to actually use my sewing machine. She’s not a quilter, but she sews beautiful garments. And I know she’s going to love it!

Sleepy Time Baby Quilt

Oh how I love baby quilts! They are so satisfying…the piecing is generally pretty quick, and then you can have a quilt completely done in record time. I’ve had Sleepytime jelly roll by Lori Gardner for Moda for quite some time. It’s pretty much all pastel colors, and I don’t generally work with pastels (hence it’s been sitting in a drawer waiting to get used). Since this quilt will find its way to someone the hubby works with, I let the hubby have a bit more say in fabric selection than I usually do (read: the hubby has no say ), and he chose the pastels.

I started this quilt Sunday afternoon, and finished hand stitching the binding on Monday afternoon.

The quilt’s post wash measurement is 31.5 x 38.5.

Life’s A Hoot

Here is a quilt for my nephew, who’s expected to make his appearance in April. I was going to wait until closer to his birth date to make and deliver the quilt, but the family decided to throw a baby shower on Christmas Eve, so I had a lot of motivation to get this done quickly.

My daughter named him “Hoot” when the parents-to-be came to visit, and that kind of stuck, so I just had to do an owl theme…but it’s certainly not overboard on the owls.

It’s really cute, and the pattern is Pure Baby Boy. The pattern calls for using a Jelly Roll, but I opted for a charm pack and a single fabric backing. The fabric is Hooty Hoot by Riley Blake. The post wash measurement is 31.5″ x 39″.

I also had to make some coordinating burp cloths, because you can never have too many, and who doesn’t love some custom birth cloths?

China Blue: Done

I just love how this quilt turned out! And I’m excited to deliver it in person! Woohoo!! China Blue is done! It has a post wash measurement of 56 x 67.

I also really like the back, and I’ll admit that it was a mistake…the rectangle block of the 5 x 5 squares was supposed to be a square, and it wasn’t until after I finished the quilting that I realized it was a rectangle. Oops…but that’s fine, because I like it lots!
